Once the dust has settled and the channel is ready to reopen, /unlock brings things back to normal in an instant. One command is all it takes to restore the conversation and let your community pick up where things left off.

Description

The /unlock command restores the Send Messages permission for the @everyone role in a previously locked channel, allowing regular members to post again. It is the counterpart to /lock and reverses the permission override applied at lock time. The unlock action and any provided reason are logged in Burger Bot’s moderation records.

Usage

/unlock #general Situation resolved, channel is back open

Parameters

channel

reason
string
A brief explanation for why the channel is being unlocked. Saved to Burger Bot’s moderation log. It’s good practice to also post a message in the channel letting members know it’s been reopened.

Permissions Required

RoleAccess
Moderator or higher✅ Can unlock channels
Regular members❌ No access

Example Usage

Unlock the current channel:
/unlock
Unlock the current channel with a reason:
/unlock Situation resolved, channel is back open
Unlock a specific channel:
/unlock #general All clear — thanks for your patience
When unlocking a channel after a moderation incident, a quick follow-up message explaining what happened (even just a sentence or two) helps maintain community trust and shows your team handled the situation thoughtfully. Members appreciate transparency.
Running /unlock on a channel that is not currently locked will result in no visible change to permissions. If a channel seems locked but /unlock doesn’t fix it, check whether the permission override was applied manually in Discord’s channel settings rather than through Burger Bot.
